5 Day/4 Night Kalbarri Getaway

 

For a great getaway that consists of picturesque land forms, spectacular gorges and a drive up WA’s beautiful coral coast, Kalbarri is a destination spot you should not go amiss.

 

Day 1

Perth to Kalbarri is approximately 591km (do- able in one day). Give yourself at least 6 hours to drive up WA’s Coral Coast. More, if stopping in the coastal towns along the way to explore their unique marina life and spectacular coast lines.

 

Pick up your Thrifty Car rental from the Perth Depot. Car Hire rates start from $64.50 per day (all inclusive)

 

On your first day of driving, it is best to drive straight to Kalbarri, with pit stops on the way. This way you can settle down in your accommodation and take a walk around Kalbarri town centre.

 

Check into your accommodation at Murchison View Apartments. Luxury spacious fully self contained, 2 & 3 bedroom apartments with river and ocean views.

 If you’re confused with the endless ideas of what to do, you may want to visit the Kalbarri visitor centre, where the staff will certainly be more than happy to help you decide.

 

  Once in Kalbarri, the options are endless as to what to see and do.

  • Visit the stunning gorges in the Kalbarri National Park
  • Take a photo through Nature’s Window
  • See the Pelican feeding every morning
  • The new Seahorse Sanctuary
  • If you’re a fisherman/ woman, you can experience the great river and ocean fishing, full of Tailor, Mulloway and Whiting
  • Tours and activities.

 

Walk down the main street and why not enjoy fabulous fish and chips for a late lunch at Finlays. Dinner can be enjoyed at the black rock café or at the local pub. You may want to have a substantial meal as your adventure starts here for the next few days to come.

 

Day 2

The best way to experience Kalbarri’s tranquil surroundings is to explore their magnificent gorges by foot at Kalbarri National Park (entry fee per vehicle applies). Make sure you take plenty of water and your walking shoes.

 

Kalbarri National Park offers a few options to take leisurely strolls. Make sure you take your time as there are several opportunities to take happy snaps, with moderate easy access to lookouts along the river gorge.

 

You may want to take your own lunch with you (depending on which trail you will be doing). This is a great opportunity to take in the tranquility and beauty of Kalbarri National Park while eating your lunch and viewing the magnificent views.

 

Take one or more of the following walks:

Z-Bend- if you want your breathe to be taken away (not literally), this 500 metre walk offers breathtaking scenery, over looking the river from 150 metres high where majestic redgums provide a lush contrast to the earthy hews of the Tumblagooda Sandstone.

 

River Gorge Hikes

Are you fit and ready to take on a challenge? Those with greater levels of fitness may want to consider doing 4 or 5 day extended hike options. If this is more your style, please contact the Department of Environment and Conservation Office.

 

The Loop and Natures’ Window

For an unforgettable gorge experience, the 8km Loop Walk Trail may be more your style. The loop starts from Nature’s Window that overlooks the spectacular winding gorge. Great for a happy snap through a portrait of stunning beauty. The Loop Walk starts and finishes from Nature’s Window.

 

Day 3

Today you may wish to take part in several tours and activities. Choose one or many of the following and you won’t be disappointed.

1) If you want some awesome fun that is for everyone than why not book a tour to go sandboarding withKalbarri Sandboarding. Adult $75 Child $65

2) Experience the tranquil surroundings by canoeing the gorges- a must do with Kalbarri Safari Tours! Adult $70 Child $50

3) The best way to see the Murchison River is by taking a scenic quad Bike ride. Book with Kalbarri Safari Tours. 1 hour tour $59

 

Day 4

Wake up at a reasonable hour and head down to the grassed area between the river mouth and visitor centre for your chance to feed the friendly Pelicans. Feedings are at 0845 every morning. After checking out of your accommodation, take a leisurely drive back down to Cervantes, home to the Pinnacles.

 

Check into your accommodation at Best Western Cervantes. Standard room for 2, starting from $140 per night.

 

Have a look around town or head straight to the Pinnacles. Pinnacle’s- park entry is $10 per vehicle. Take several photos along the viewing platforms and be amazed by the figurations of the historic landforms. Drive back to town and the evening is of your choice.

 

Day 5

Today you head back to Perth. During the months of September/ October be amazed by the flamboyant wildflowers that scatter over the land. If you are in no rush to be back in Perth, then why not marvel at the massive turbines of the Wind Farm. You won’t miss them while on the road to Perth!

Make sure you arrive back in Perth to drop your car back to the Thrifty Perth Depot by your designated time.
